SANTIAGO.- A confrontation between rival gangs has left a two year old boy injured after his scalp was grazed by a bullet in the Lo Hermita neighborhood in the Municipality of Lo Barnechea.

According to Radio Cooperativa, a bullet ricocheted off of the pavement and grazed the head of the little boy –identified with the initials J.V.- who was rushed to the Calvo Mackenna hospital where doctors indicated that his injuries were not life-threatening.

"He is okay, he is not in danger; the injury is minor; we ran all necessary tests and the child was consistently in stable condition with his vital signs within normal range; luckily, now that all of the medical exams have been completed, the child is ready to be sent home", indicated a representative of the medical center.

Despite the fact that the toddler was not seriously injured, the East Public Prosecutor's Office has assured that the case will be investigated and that those responsible will be brought to justice.
