SANTIAGO.- Officers belonging to the Criminal Investigation Brigade in the municipality of La Pintana arrested four minors and two adults this morning that have been linked to the "Los Guarenes" gang just as they were getting ready to rob a store in San Miguel.
According to Sub-Prefect Christian Moena, the operation began after police received an anonymous phone call informing them that there were six individuals with tools and duffle bags waiting for a vehicle on the corner of Santo Tomás and Joaquín Edwards Bello.
Following the call, police officers were dispatched to the corner, where they spotted the suspects getting into a Peugeot van and followed the vehicle.
After arriving at the intersection of Américo Vespucio and Gran Avenida, the six suspects became aware of the police presence and attempted to flee the area. Nevertheless, the law enforcement officers managed to intercept the suspects and arrest them just a few blocks away.
According to the chief of police, one of the men arrested admitted that he had been planning to rob a La Polar store located on Gran Avenida, which was why he had been carrying tools such as ladders, pliers and a "napoleón". The suspect had allegedly been planning to steal laptop computers and cellular phones from the store.
