Accident leaves six dead and two injured in Valdivia

A truck carrying eight people flipped over and then fell into a stream.

VALDIVIA.- Six people died as the result of an accident that took place at 12:00 AM today along a service road in the municipality of Paillaco, just south of Valdivia, after the truck the individuals were traveling in flipped over and fell off of the road.


The vehicle, which was carrying a total of eight passengers at the time, dropped into the waters of the Folilco stream just as the truck was crossing the La Lluma bridge located on a cobblestone road nine kilometers outside of Paillaco.


The bodies of the victims were removed by fire-fighters from the Paillaco rescue unit at approximately 3:00 AM. Meanwhile, the SIAT unit of Valdivia Police has begun investigating the cause of the accident.


The driver of the truck, Luis Navarro, as well as a woman who has been identified as Mariela Angulo, have been taken to hospitals in Valdivia and Paillaco, respectively.
