SANTIAGO.- After six hours of search efforts, two brothers, ages 16 and 19, were rescued this morning after they had climbed up to Parque Mahuida in the municipality of La Reina yesterday and lost their sense of direction just before nightfall.
According to Radio Cooperativa, the teens were carrying a cellular telephone with them, which allowed them to contact police and report that they were lost on the hill.
Police Major Víctor Jara, said that the area where the brothers were found was easy to access but very difficult to exit, since the location was very steep. "They had gone up there in the afternoon and on their way back they were unable to locate their footprints or any point of reference to let them know where they were", he explained.
The young men were taken to a medical center where, despite being dehydrated and suffering from muscular cramps, there were reported to be in good health.
