SANTIAGO.- After meeting with President Michellet Bachelet for close to 20 minutes this morning, Felipe Harboe announced his resignation as Undersecretary of Interior and assured that as of today, he will be at the disposal of the PPD in order to represent them in the 2009 parliamentary elections.

The resigned undersecretary thanked the President for the trust she bestowed upon him and pointed out the progress that was made during her administration concerning civil safety.

"They were two and a half very intense years; they mark the end of an important cycle.  Four years as undersecretary during the administration of President Lagos and almost three years serving in the administration of President Michelle Bachelet is enough time to begin looking for new political pathways", Harboe stated.

With regards to possibly running for deputy of the district of Santiago Centro, Harboe remained cautious stating, "the people are the ones who will decide and secondly my party as well, (because) the structures of the parties are what define the candidates".

Although he acknowledged that the current deputy of the district, Carolina Tohá (PPD), had proposed that he take over her position, Harboe stressed that "the proposal must be approved by the Party for Democracy (PPD)".
