SANTIAGO.- Business tycoon Rafael Guilisasti was chosen today to serve as president of the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC) after receiving 70 votes in favor and one abstention.

Following the election, Guilisasti, who is also the vice-president of the Concha y Toro vineyard and the Federation of Chilean Industry (SOFOFA), thanked the representatives of the six branches that make up the multi-faceted organization for their support.

"The amount of support I have received obligates me to become a loud and clear voice to confront the challenges and complexities that face us", Guilisasti declared during his first speech as president of the organization.

Guilisasti, who ran as the only contender, will fill the position formerly held by the leader of the National Mining Society (Sonami), Alfredo Ovalle, for the next two years.

The new president of the Confederation expressed gratitude for the work realized by his predecessor and stressed his "prudence, moderation and wisdom as leader of the CPC".
