SANTIAGO.- Chile has become the first nation in Latin America to sign a bilateral agreement with Denmark that allows young Chilean adults the opportunity to live in Denmark for up to one year and work for a period of up to six months.
Likewise, the agreement allows the same opportunities to young Danish nationals who want to work and live in Chile.
"The agreement opens up new opportunities for young adults to travel, since they will be able to finance a large portion of their stay by working", stated Danish Ambassador Kim Højlund Christensen.
The main objective of the pact, which will become valid as of January 1st 2009, is to encourage mutual understanding between the two nations. By giving young Chileans the opportunity to visit Denmark without any kind of obligations, the European country is hoping to attract a qualified labor force over the long term.
Chile is the only country in Latin America that has signed such an agreement with Denmark, which was sealed during the visit of the Chilean Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, to Denmark on December 8th of this year.
Applications for the program will be available to Chilean nationals between the ages of 18 and 30. Those interested should contact the Embassy of Denmark in Chile.
