SANTIAGO. - Claudio Serrano Madrid, who, until today was the Undersecretary of Regional Development, has a degree in Sociology from the Universidad Católica and a doctorate in the field from the School of Higher Social Science Studies in Paris.
After beginning her career in 1983, Serrano served as a researcher for the Latin American Economic Research Corporation (CIEPLAN). From 1990 to 1994, she was the general director of Social and Cultural Policy for the Municipality of Santiago, but left the position to become the Chief of the Program Department of the Solidarity and Social Investment Fund (FOSIS) until 1995.
Following her time at FOSIS, Serrano once again become a researcher for CIEPLAN from 1996 to 1997. From 1998 until the present, she has been working as a consultant and researcher for the Development Advising Department.
The new minister has directed several studies, consulting projects and evaluations on topics related to public policy and social development, decentralization of the State, poverty and vulnerability, gender, as well as citizenship and social capital.
