SANTIAGO. - The Second Court of Appeals of Santiago has revoked the bail set by Magistrate Cristián Sánchez, of the First Court of Penalties, for a group of defendants that stole an automatic teller machine from a warehouse in the municipality of Pudahuel on December 9th of this year.
Initially, Judge Cristián Sánchez had ruled that the individuals could be placed in house arrest in exchange for a bail payment, which provoked an appeal.
After studying the ruling however, the Court of Appeals decided that the defendants, who were identified as Juan Carlos Maldonado, Patricio Fuentes Zamorano, Juan Díaz Hormazábal, Héctor Morales and Jorge Moya Moyano, constituted a danger to society.
The initial decision was appealed by Attorney Alfredo Morgado, who condemned the double interpretation of the anti-crime agenda used to reach the ruling in this case.
