SANTIAGO. -  The Bolivian Forensics Investigations Institute has turned over the remains of three victims of the military dictatorship of Hugo Banzer, including those of Chilean national Agustín Carrillo Carrasco, who served in the army led by Ernesto “Che” Guevara, as well as Argentine national Óscar Pérez and Bolivian citizen Jaime Virrueta.

According to evidence collected during the investigation, Carrillo was a miner in the southern part of the country and on his way through Bolivia, enlisted in the National Liberation Army.  According to Radio Cooperativa, Carillo disappeared on July 26th of 1972 after being captured and was later executed.

The three bodies were exhumed from the mausoleum of the Association for Relatives of Martyred and Disappeared Prisoners for the Liberation in La Paz and were identified by a genetic exam.

“(The identification was done by means of) a DNA test and it has obviously been established, through lab tests, that they are a match to their relatives”, indicated State Prosecutor Manuel Zuleta.
