SANTIAGO.- Police belonging to the OS-9 unit arrested a man accused of holding a woman captive and repeatedly raping her last weekend at a remote location in the municipality of Pedro Aguirre Cerda.
28 year-old Sergio Bustamante was captured last night in the same area where he had attacked the 23 year-old woman with initials F.L.G.
Major Óscar Varas explained that after ambushing the woman, the suspect took her to a remote location near the railroad tracks where he kept her all night Saturday, raping her repeatedly and cutting several parts of her body. The young housewife has been in a state of shock since.
Vargas added that before the arrest, police had been searching for the man for several days using a sketch artist. Officials are currently investigating whether the individual may be linked to other similar cases.
Case sources have indicated that the victim had her hands and feet tied. It has also been reported that after raping the woman, Sergio Bustamante slammed her head against some rocks before fleeing the scene.
The man, who has been identified by the victim, has previous criminal records for robbery and domestic violence, as well as a pending warrant for arrest for the attempted murder of his girlfriend.
