SANTIAGO.- After an unprecedented public competitive process to fill the vacancy left by Minister Marcos Libedinsky, the Supreme Court revealed today the list of five candidates that will be presented to the President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet, who will then choose a nominee who will be submitted to a vote at the Senate.
Among the candidates for the new position in the maximum tribunal are ministers Julio César Torres Allú of the Court of Valparaíso, who was automatically included in the running due to the fact that he is the oldest magistrate in the Judicial Branch; Rosa María Maggi of the Santiago Court of Appeals, who obtained nine votes; Alfredo Pfeiffer of Santiago, who was rejected by the Senate just a few months ago and also obtained nine votes; Carlos Aránguiz of Rancagua, with six votes and Minister Rosa Egnem of the San Miguel Court of Appeals.
Only 20 of the 148 judges in the various Appeals Courts throughout the country applied for the nomination process and those who did wish to participate were required to have outstanding marks between 6.5 and 7.
Furthermore, the magistrates were required to provide extensive background information, which will soon be published on the website of the Judicial Branch.
