Eighth version of the "Carnavales Culturales" begins today in Valparaíso

Local artists will be showcased along with guests from the Mexican city of Veracruz, which is this year's guest of honor.

VALPARAÍSO.- President Michelle Bachelet will be presiding over the opening ceremony of the eighth "Carnavales Culturales de Valparaíso" that commences today in the capital city of the Fifth Region, welcoming the Mexican city of Veracruz as its guest of honor.


The festivities will continue through the 28th of December in various parts of the city with 60 events programmed including presentations, theater and circus presentations.


Featuring the participation of the city of Veracruz, the Papantla Flyers Pole ("Palo de los Voladores de Papantla") has already been erected to be used for acrobatics, dances and other routines.


The Mexican delegation has also brought the Ballet Folklórico group from the Universidad Veracruzana, the Carnivalito de Veracruz, as well as two expositions showcasing the unique culture of the Mexican city.


The event will also include the signing of a brotherly agreement between the cities of Valparaíso and Veracruz, which will aim to further develop friendly ties and cooperation between the two ports.
