SANTIAGO.- After the wife of a "false" missing political prisoner, who was previously thought to be dead and was later found alive in Argentina in 2005, assured that she has continued to receive payments from the government (after the latter asserted that the payments had stopped), Presidential Human Rights Advisor María Luis Sepúlveda stepped forward this morning to clarify the situation.
According to Sepúlveda's explanation, "the government was referring to a payment that was being given to a child" of Carlos Patricio Rojas Campos when it stated that it had ordered the immediate cancellation of payments that were being made to the family.
"It seems that the payments being made to wife continued because the request issued was with regards to the payment that was being received by the child, which was a situation classified as pending while under investigation", she stated.
Sepúlveda also indicated that on Saturday, when the Undersecretary of Interior, Patricio Rosende, referred to an audit within the INP in April of last year to determine why the compensation payments were once again being made to the family of Rojas Campos, he really was referring to "an investigation".
"I don't know if technically it is an audit or an investigation, but it must be one of the two. Anyways, these same records will be presented to the courts", she assured.
