Man dies in car accident in Providencia

SANTIAGO. -  A man died at 4:50 AM this morning after being in a traffic accident at the intersection of El Arzobispo and Bellavista, in the municipality of Providencia.

The fatal victim, identified as 41 year-old Gonzalo Tomás Farías, had been driving a Peugeot 205 northbound on El Arzobispo when, due to causes that are still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle while trying to turn onto Bellavista, and subsequently crashed into a street sign as well as a tree.

 Fire-fighter Claudio Muñoz stated that when authorities arrived at the scene they attempted to revive the man. “We didn’t stop for a moment, emergency medical service officials arrived later, we worked with them for approximately 40 minutes continuing to give the man CPR”, he said.

The man managed to survive for some time and was taken in extremely critical condition to the Posta Central medical facility, where he passed away at 7:00 AM this morning.
