SANTIAGO. -  Officers belonging to the Metropolitan Homicide Brigade of the Bureau of Police Investigations reported the death of a 44 year-old man who fell this morning from the 16th floor of a building located on Calle Flor de Azucena, in the municipality of Las Condes.

The victim, identified as Juan Pablo Méndez Rioseco, was found by the concierge of the building in the courtyard of the Las Azucenas building.

According to Officer Mauricio Lara, the victim, who had been suffering from diabetes for approximately six years, may have attempted to take his own life on other occasions as a result of depression.

Case sources have revealed that Méndez left behind a note, which could offer insight into why the man committed suicide.  The document is being investigated by personnel from the PDI crime lab.

At the moment his death, Méndez was at home with his brother, who only found out about what had happened after the concierge notified him, due to the fact that the victim apparently jumped from his bedroom window.
