SANTIAGO.-  Former President Ricardo Lagos stated today that both holding primary elections as well as reaching “a solid agreement” are equally “legitimate” ways to establish a sole candidate for the Concertación in the upcoming presidential elections.

“I have no doubt that either of these paths will be equally legitimate and will allow us to have a sole candidate, which had previously generated doubts.  Now there is no one who opposes having a sole candidate”, Lagos declared before participating today in the Europe-Latin America-United States Forum in Madrid.

After indicating that it is a good idea for parties belonging to the coalition to decide which method will be used, Lagos claimed that there is no reason to “fear” either option of holding primaries or reaching a solid coalition agreement.
