SANTIAGO.- Deputies Marcelo Forni (UDI) and Marco Enríquez Ominami (PS) arrived today at the El Abanico de Maitencillo beach in the Fifth Region to protest along with a group of residents and ecological organizations a major real estate project that plans to construct three high-rise buildings in the area.
On Friday of last week, the Regional Environmental Commission (COREMA), authorized the construction of one 12-floor tower and two 6-floor buildings.
According to the deputies, not only will the development block the view in the area, it will also cause significant traffic and drainage problems due to the fact that the road and sewer systems are not equipped for what would be a 30 percent increase in Maitencillo´s population.
“We want coastal towns to grow in a sustainable, clean fashion and to progress, but that is not what is happening in Maitencillo and we want to make sure that all environmental guidelines are met and that there is adequate cooperation between the various organizations”, stated Forni.
