SANTIAGO.- An array of eminent government officials, business people and politicians have stopped by the Clínica Las Condes to offer their support to Finance Minister Andrés Velasco and TVN journalist Consuelo Saavedra, after their daughter Ema, only two-and-a-half-years-old, suffered immersion asphyxia after falling into a swimming pool in Zapallar.
Visitors have included the president of the Central Bank, José De Gregorio; Deputy Alberto Cardemil; Undersecretary of Health, Jeannette Vega; TVN host Pedro Carcuro, and Intendent of Santiago, Igor Garafulic.
Those close to the family have confirmed that the child is connected to a ventilator and that she still has water in her lungs.
Nevertheless, they shared that doctors have detected brain activity, a positive sign since it decreases the possibility of neurological damage.
Sources went on to state that tomorrow doctors are considering attempting to bring her out of the induced coma that she has been in until now.
