SANTIAGO.- PPD Deputy and president of the Finance Commission, Eugenio Tuma, allegedly sent a card to Vice President Edmundo Pérez Yoma requesting that if the election day is changed, that there be a legal initiative to make the measure permanent.

"The idea is not for this measure to be temporary, but rather for the parliamentary and presidential elections to always be held on the second Sunday of December", stated Tuma.

The request is based on the fact that, from India, President Michelle Bachelet has revealed that she is willing to move the parliamentary and presidential election from the 11th of December this year, to Sunday the 13th of December in an effort to sustain proposals made by several business and trade sectors.

Among the reasons mentioned for the change is the fact that it is not good to hold the elections on a work day, considering the current state of the world economy and the need to increase the nation's levels of production.

"Nevertheless, I think that the reasons proposed not only apply to times of economic turbulence, and that is why the measure should be instated not only for this year's elections, but for all future elections", concluded the PPD deputy.
