Second Hotel Militar explosion victim dies

Julio Egoaguirre had suffered burns on over 90 percent of his body and passed away as the result of multiple organ failure.

SANTIAGO.- A second worker injured in the explosion that took place at the Hotel Militar on Sunday has passed away at the Posta Central as a result of his multiple wounds.


According to official information, Julio Egoaguirre, who had suffered burns covering more than 90 percent of his body, died yesterday due to multiple organ failure that aggravated his condition.


Juan Enrique Santander Figueroa also died yesterday after receiving burns on over 98% of his body during the explosion.


Meanwhile, 14 year-old Gunther Orellana continues to be hospitalized at the Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital in critical, life-threatening condition with 97% of his body burned.


The disaster took place on Sunday in the boiler room of the establishment, as the workers attempted to repair a gas leak.


Two other employees, identified as Jorge Orellana Inostroza and Luis Orellana Fuenzalida, were also injured but have already been discharged.
