Two police officers and three civilians injured in crash on Autopista Central

The law enforcement officers were taken by helicopter to the institution's hospital, while the other victims are currently being treated at Hospital Barros Luco.

SANTIAGO.- Two police officers and three civilians were injured this morning in a pile-up that included two police vans and two private vehicles along the Autopista Central.


According to police, the incident took place at 9:00 am, when the driver of a Volkswagen Polo suddenly hit the brakes and caused another vehicle of the same model to impact the rear of his car. The vehicle behind was then hit by two police vans belonging to the 36th  Police Commissary, which also collided with each other.


As a result of the accident, police officers Pedro Benedicto Cid Manríquez and Gabriel Poblete Martínez were injured and transported by helicopter to the National Police Force hospital.


Cristián Cornejo Cornejo, Jorge Martínez Díaz and Álvaro Silva Olivares also suffered varying degrees of injury and were taken to the Hospital Barros Luco to be examined.


The accident took place along the eastern side of the Autopista Central and caused a major traffic jam southbound from the 6th kilometer of the route.


Police officers belonging to the 12th Commissary of San Miguel, as well as the SIAT, were dispatched to the scene and have already begun an investigation to clarify what took place.
