SANTIAGO.- At around midnight 12 year-old Diego Poblete underwent an emergency surgical intervention to treat a fungus that is currently affecting the area where the boy received a liver transplant over two weeks ago.
According to Radio Bío Bío, the boy's father, Luis Poblete, has said that it is likely that Diego will have to be operated on again this afternoon in order to perform surgical cleansing of the area, remove some of the infected tissue and prevent the fungus from spreading further.
The child received a liver transplant on March 22nd of this year and has remained in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital Luis Calvo Mackenna since, where he is currently sedated and undergoing dialysis due t the deterioration of his kidneys.
Following the transplant, the boy has had to undergo surgery on two other occasions due to hemorrhaging.
