SANTIAGO.-Quite a commotion was caused today at the Santa Ana station where Metro company personnel responded to cries for help from a pregnant woman going through strong contractions, who finally gave birth at the location.

According to Radio Cooperativa, a 21  year-old woman was getting ready to board the subway at the station connecting lines 2 and 5 when she suddenly began to suffer contractions and was approached by a security guard.

The woman was taken to an office at the station, where she was aided by paramedics who managed to help her give birth without complications.

"The baby is perfect, he was born and cried immediately, so the attention was turned to the baby, he was cleaned and blanketed and we gave him to his mother until SAMU personnel arrived and tended to him", stated the head of the station, Waldo Cuevas.

After receiving aid, the woman and her baby were taken to Hospital San Borja Arriarán, where they are currently listed in good condition.
