SANTIAGO.- The Alianza is currently passing through a difficult moment due to its negotiation of parliamentary openings and resignation of Senator Pablo Longueira (UDI) at the orders of Sebastián Piñera (RN) led Socialist Party (PS) leader, Camilo Escalona, to predict that the UDI will have its own presidential candidate by June.

"What is going to happen is that Longuiera's dissidence will make it so, over the next few weeks, the UDI is going to increase its distance and I would even venture to say that by June, the UDI will have its own presidential candidate", stated Escalona.

Nevertheless, the socialist senator opted not to say who the candidate would be. "I don't know if it will be Longuiera. Maybe (Joaquín) Lavín", he declared.

The president of the PS justified his prediction by stating that "the UDI is a powerful party and, what is happening is, the threat to the parliamentary bench on the part of National Renovation candidates is affecting the very backbone of what the UDI is as a party".
