Baby born following brutal murder of mother dies in Osorno

OSORNO.– This morning the newborn infant of late Claudia Barría Torres, 25, also died.  Claudia was stabbed to death yesterday.

The baby who had gestated for 34 weeks in the womb survived for 12 hours following an emergency cesarean section on her already dead mother at the Hospital Base in Osorno.

Police officials from the Homicide and Robbery Brigade of the PDI of Osorno have captured the presumed perpetrator of the act, identified as Nelson Eduardo Mores Castro, 24, who has already been identified by witnesses of the violent murder.

According to sub-commissioner Rodrigo Quiroz, although Mores has yet to officially admit his guilt, he has already contradicted himself repeatedly in detention, and everything is on the record.

Quiroz added that the defendant "was a casual partner who the victim had intercourse with in September of 2008, her resulting pregnancy is what brought about the conflict".

"She always insisted that it was his baby, and he never wanted to accept his paternity, he said that it was not his and that the baby would not be born, offering her money to get an abortion", reported the police chief.
