SANTIAGO.- According to union president Jaime Gajardo, the national teachers´ strike continues to keep close to two million students out of classes today after government authorities did not attend a round-table discussion that had been planned.

The educators, who are demanding that the municipalities pay a Special Additional Subsidy bonus from 2007 and 2008, will gather this morning at the Plaza de Armas to try and make their way to the Ministry of Education or perhaps even the La Moneda presidential palace.

The Teacher’s Association assures that 80 thousand educators will continue the indefinite strike and have even threatened to hold more radical demonstrations until a solution is reached with authorities.

Meanwhile, the vice president of the Chilean Association of Municipalities (AChM), Claudio Arriagada, denied discarded Gajardo´s statements and assured that the Executive Branch will resolve the situation.
