SANTIAGO.- Darío Paya, the secretary general for the Independent Democratic Union (UDI) Party, has reacted to Government Spokesperson Francisco Vidal's threat with an air of complete calm. Vidal claimed that he would file a lawsuit against Paya for slander, after Paya allegedly indicated that Vidal was "in charge of the misdirection of Chiledeportes funds".
The Member of Parliament did not directly deny the accusation, which was published on Sunday only by the news agency UPI. Paya did however take the liberty of delivering a signed, complete copy of the statements he made yesterday, which does not include the controversial comment.
"After hearing his threat, I went back through my statements from yesterday and I will repeat them word for word (…) and if he wants me to say them in court, I'll be happy to do so", he asserted.
Concerning another one of the phrases which provoked Vidal's threat of a lawsuit, Paya added: "I hold myself 100% responsible for what I said, the Concertación really cheated to stay in control here".
