Chilean economy named eighth freest in the world

Chile is the Latin American leader in the ranking created by The Heritage Foundation think tank.

HONG KONG.- An annual report published today by the United States think tank, The Heritage Foundation, has chosen the Chilean economy as the freest in Latin America. Worldwide, Chile came in at number 8, a ranking higher than both Switzerland and the United Kingdom.


Hong Kong was named the number one free market economy in the world for the 14th straight year over its rival, Singapore.


Ireland came in third, followed by Australia (4th), the United States (5th), New Zealand (6th), Canada (7th), Chile (8th), Switzerland (9th) and the United Kingdom (10th).


According to the foundation, North Korea is the country with the highest level of economic repression. Cuba, Zimbabwe, Libya and Myanmar also appeared at the end of the list.
