SANTIAGO.- The vicepresidente of the Cristian Democracy (DC) party, Sergio Micco, has deemed criticism against the party’s president, Soledad Alvear, outlined in a resignation letter sent to the group from Adolfo Zaldívar´s family, to be "untruthful".
In response to the statements made by the family members of "red-headed" Senator Zaldívar, Micco stated, "any Chilean realizes that being the leader of a political party is the most rare and difficult way to become the country’s President". Zaldívar's family members had indicated that Alvear's "insatiable ambitions" to become President were the motivation behind Zaldívar's removal.
Micco has also rejected additional arguments made by Zaldívar's family that he was removed because of his desire to change the economic model.
Furthermore, Sergio Micco stated that the "red-headed" senator’s expulsion from the party was due to the fact that Alvear's party is aligned with the government and that Zaldívar represented "a pact with the right wing".
