SANTIAGO.- The president of the Socialist Party, Camilo Escalona, expressed regret over Codelco's "absolute incapacity" to reach an agreement with workers regarding the subcontracting law and deemed the legal measures taken by the company to be "disgraceful".
"We feel that the Subcontracting Law is being put on trial after the many years of work and effort that led to its approval at the National Congress", said the senator.
"We think that the legal proceedings that Codelco has decided to pursue, hoping to nullify the regulations developed by the Labor Association, are a disgrace", he added.
In Escalona's opinion, this situation has worsened labor relations in the area concerning workers' rights and labor stability.
"From my point of view, this situation merits the use the old metaphor 'putting out a fire with gasoline'", he said.
