MADRID.- Not an uncommon occurrence, rumors are beginning to fly as the Spanish soccer season gets going regarding a large club's plan to commission the expertise of Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini. While in the past, teams involved in such speculation included Valencia or Barcelona, it is now time for Atlético Madrid to follow suit.

According to the Spanish sports periodical "As", Atlético Madrid's current coach, Javier Aguirre, is not sure whether he will continue with the team next season and plans to hold off on making a decision until the tournament is over.

If Aguirre chooses not to continue with the team, the board of directors for the "rojiblanco" will be looking for a trainer who is familiar with the League, a quality that designates Manuel Pellegrini as a favorite. Despite the fact that Pellegrini has renewed a contract with Villarreal for two more seasons, "As" suggests that Atlético Madrid may be able to play a powerful card to convince him.

Other possible candidates being considered include Rafa Benítez, who seems to be going through a rough patch with Liverpool, José Mourihno, although his asking price may be way out of range, and Cholo Simeone, whose recent arrival to a large club like River could keep him out of the running.
