SANTIAGO. - Although he was asked about Juan Román Riquelme, he ended up talking about Alexis Sanchez and the other up- and- coming player for River Plate, Diego Buonanotte. Ariel Ortega was interviewed by the Olé Daily of Argentina and spared no praise for the Chilean.
They asked the creator of the Millonarios club if Riquelme was the best player in Argentine soccer and the ex national player responded firmly. “For me, the best of the championship is Verón. Riquelme represents a lot for the Boca team and his presence is good for Argentine soccer, but Verón is the best”, he stated.
He did not stop there, however, and continued to field questions about the former players of Cobreloa and Colo Colo.
“Alexis (Sánchez) and Buonanotte are going to be greats. They need time and support though, we need to stand by them because they are still kids and in today’s soccer you can be Maradona one Sunday, and the worst in the world by the next Sunday”, he said.
