SANTIAGO. - The Government strongly spoke out against the bomb threat reported this morning at Chilevisión T.V. station as well as the explosion of a device which damaged a BCI bank office in Providencia yesterday— assuring that those responsible for these types of actions will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
“If these groups think that the Government is going to feel threatened, become scared or start trembling, they are completely mistaken because we are going to take every legal action possible against them”, stated Secretary General Francisco Vidal.
Vidal admitted that “something happened last year” at the celebration to commemorate Young Soldier’s Day (which has been commemorated every 19th of March since 1985, when the Vergara Toledo brothers were killed) and said that it could be the motivation behind the recent attacks.
According to Vidal’s statement, disturbances historically have only happened on this date in the specific area of Villa Francia, in Estación Central, but were reported to have extended into other parts of the city during 2007.
