Harboe and INE poll: Deputy Paya "is comparing apples to oranges"

These were the words used by the sub secretary of the Interior to assure that the UDI deputy does not “know about security” and “mixes things up”, after the deputy criticized the poll.

SANTIAGO.- The sub secretary of the Interior, Felipe Harboe, dodged criticism from opposition officials who have questioned the figures released yesterday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), which indicated an 8.2% drop in the victimization index from 2003 to 2007.

“He (the UDI deputy, Darío Paya) says that crime reports have increased, according to the minister of Interior (…) This shows trust in the system, it does not indicate an increase in crime.  Crime, within serious countries, is measured through victimization polls”, Harboe told Radio Cooperativa this morning.

According to Harboe, that is why the Concertación has “won the elections 14 times in a row, because Paya is in charge of the polls.  This man compares apples to oranges.  He knows nothing about security and mixes things up”.
