SANTIAGO.- On strike since last week, labor leader Cristián Cuevas has stated that Codelco subcontracted laborers plan to intensify the demonstrations if agreements are not made soon with the largest Copper producer in the world.
The workers have been on strike since Wednesday last week, causing the company’s production to slow to the point that the copper company has had to temporarily close three of its divisions.
“If this issue is not resolved, the subcontracted workers will intensify the level of their demonstrations and we will call on all of Chile to join us in our struggle” Cristián Cuevas, president of the Confederation of Copper Workers (CTC), told Chilevisión.
Andina and Salvador have remained closed since the beginning of the strike due to security concerns, while the El Teniente division has had to cancel several worker shifts since the weekend.
Last night, Codelco announced that the production plants at the El Teniente Division would remain closed at least until Friday afternoon.
