SANTIAGO.- Following the recent incident reported at the Iquique Hospital, where four people died without ever having been informed that they had tested positive for HIV, the president of the Confederation of Municipal Heath Workers (CONFUSAM), Esteban Maturana, has refuted the argument made indicating that the problem can be attributed to low salaries.

"It is not a valid argument to propose that low salaries can explain the situation", declared Maturana.

Additionally, Maturana added that low salaries do not justify poor service.

When asked about possible constitutional charges that could be presented by some members of Parliament against the Minister of Health, María Soledad Barría, the CONFUSAM leader criticized the initiative, as well as the government.

"I believe that the responsibility concerning what is happening at the Iquique Hospital and the San José de Santiago Hospital is shared by all of the members of Parliament who have asked for the Minister of Health to resign. The members of Parliament cannot wash their hands of this", stated Maturana.
