Young man dies after being mugged and shot in the head

According to initial investigations, Jorge Valdés, 20, was attacked by a group of five while he was on his way to work.

SANTIAGO.- The central-north Public Prosecutor's Office and the Homicide Brigade are currently investigating the murder of a 20 year-old man who was mugged and shot in the head this morning in the neighborhood of Santiago 2 in Estación Central.

Sources have indicated that Jorge Valdés Galarce was headed to work when, at the corner of Pasaje 11 and avenida Colector in Santiago 2, he was attacked by five individuals who robbed him and shot him in the head.

The incident took place at 6:30 a.m. this morning, when, according to a family member, the father of a one-month old baby girl was on his way to his job as a concierge.

Following the violent attack, the victim was taken to the Posta 3 medical facility where, despite efforts on the part of doctors, he died at 7:30 a.m. as a result of the severe gunshot wound.
