SANTIAGO.- An undetermined number of individuals reportedly attempted to steal an automatic teller machine located in downtown Viña del Mar.

The incident took place at a Banco de Chile ATM machine located on Valparaiso Avenue in the aforementioned city.

The suspects broke the window panes protecting the cash dispensers and, equipped with special tools, tried to open the machine.

Nevertheless, the individuals were unable to complete the theft due to the fact that the machine possessed an internal safe box to house the cash.

Furthermore, an alarm at the site began to sound and alerted police, who are currently performing an intensive search of the area to locate those responsible for the attempted robbery.
