SANTIAGO.- Although the spokespersons for the Concertación parties, Camilo Escalona, stated yesterday that the Government would define a plan to finance Transantiago today at the Political Committee, the Government's Secretary General, Ricardo Lagos Weber, assured that this was not determined during the meeting, lead by President Michelle Bachelet.

"The issue of financing Transantiago was tackled today, but as I have already indicated, we do not have a deadline to define a solution to the matter in the next few days. We have been evaluating the best ways to ensure financing that will allow people to have a transportation service that is better, more respectable and safer", said the state secretary.

He also reiterated that the choice that is made to clear up the situation would be announced when "we understand that we have a solution that is efficient, impartial and corresponds to needs".

Regarding statements made by Escalona, the Government spokesperson said that he was more cautious about referring to the matter and called for concordance with the Executive Branch.
