SANTIAGO.-  A two-year old child with the initials J.A.L.V.  is currently in stable condition after being shot early this morning during a puzzling incident reported in La Florida.
According to the head of the Intensive Car Unit at Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital, Cristián Valverde, the bullet entered through the child’s neck and continued into his torso, but did not affect any vital organs.

"He is on a respiratory machine, he was in surgery for five hours and the bullet was removed", stated Valverde.

The doctor added that the bullet had pierced one of the child’s lungs, but that he has been treated and is currently using a respiratory machine which, depending on changes in his condition, may be removed sometime during the next 24 to 48 hours.

At the hospital, the child’s parents declined to comment to the press.  The child’s grandfather however, Luis Leiva Soto, denied that the incident was caused by a rise in bills and stated that he had been the one who took the toddler to the Luis Tisné Medical Center.
