González has impressive debut at French Open

The Chilean tennis star defeated Czech player Jiri Vanek by 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3.

SANTIAGO.- Chilean tennis player Fernando González (ATP No.12) enjoyed a solid debut today at the French Open.


On clay court number seven of the Parisian venue, Chile’s number one player soundly defeated Czech player Jiri Vanek (ATP No.152) with set scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3 in one hour and 26 minutes.


González began to shine early in the first set with extraordinary game play featuring an impressive cross forehand and backhand that allowed him to close out the set without much fuss.


During the second set, González continued to excel and cemented his position in the fifth and seventh game while breaking Vanek´s serve and finally ending with a score of 6-2 in 24 minutes.


During the third phase of the match, González showed of his skills most prominently during the third game, when he snatched the Czech player’s serve with an impressive crossed forehand.


The scene was repeated during the ninth game; however this time it ended the match with a clear-cut score of 6-3 in 34 minutes.


During the second round of the tournament, González will face the winner of a match between Portuguese player Rui Machado (ATP No.130) and Belgian player Kristof Vliegen (ATP No.94).
