RIO DE JANEIRO.- According to the latest Latin American Economic Climate Index report, Chile has registered 6 points, falling to sixth place as the best place to do business. The ranking indicates a drop compared to the 6.4 points Chile received in the previous report, released in February.
The ranking, which is determined by the Brazilian Getulio Vargas Foundation and the IFO Institute of Munich, during April, the business climate in Latin America fell to its lowest level since 2003.
The study released each trimester shows an index of 4.9 for Latin America during April of 2008, compared to the 5.2 points registered earlier this year in January.
Among the individual classifications, Uruguay continued in first place as the country with the best Economic Climate Index in Latin America with 7.6 points (down from 7.8 points in January), while Peru remained in second place with 7.4 points (compared to 7.5 points in January).
