SANTIAGO.- The nuclear densimeter, which had been missing since Wednesday after being stolen from inside a truck in the municipality of La Granja, was found by a 25 year-old man.

According to Radio Cooperativa, the man decided to turn the device in to a police station after reading on the internet about the dangers associated with mishandling it.

Law enforcement officers indicated that the device was in good condition and that there is no danger of radiation, since it was not opened.

The theft of the densimeter put Seremi Metropolitan Health officials on alert, due to the risk of radiation if mishandled by untrained individuals. The urgency of the situation led authorities to issue an emphatic public plea to have the item returned.

Another densimeter remains missing in the Metropolitan Region however, after being stolen from the Technological and Scientific Research Unit of the Universidad Católica (Dictuc) this past December.
