SANTIAGO.- One day before the beginning of the trial in which he is charged of rape, Chilean classical singer Tito Beltrán has been transferred to a prison in Malmö after filing a complaint against a guard for alleged aggression.
Until recently, Beltrán had been held in custody at an institution in Trelleborg. He was transferred, however, after filing a complaint on Monday about an incident involving a guard who supposedly violently took the telephone from him and pushed him into his cell. The singer stated to the Swedish press, "I swear, I could have died".
The artist's wife, Jenny Beltrán, told the newspaper "Express" that her husband is happy to see "the end" of the case in sight, hoping that he will be absolved during the proceedings set to begin tomorrow at the Ystad district courthouse. "He is also satisfied that a large portion of the trial will be open to the public", she added.
